The Cumberland Valley Eagles came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past State College 63-42. That looming 63-42 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Cumberland Valley yet this season.
Cumberland Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Creston Austin, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The contest was Austin's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Buzalka, who scored 12 points.
Cumberland Valley's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for State College, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Cumberland Valley and Waynesboro will round out the year against one another at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at. Waynesboro will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 648th, while Cumberland Valley is ranked 41st). State College will finish 2023 at home by hosting Avonworth at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Avonworth knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully State College likes a good challenge.
