Softball Recap: Clinton Prairie Snags Third Win in Last Four Games

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Clinton Prairie had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Traders Point Christian Knights a 15-0 shutout. The Gophers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Sadie Weliver and Maddy Wessell made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Weliver struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Wessell tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Weliver got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs, while Wessell earned two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs Weliver has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Keera Grizzle was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since May 2nd. Lily Coleman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Clinton Prairie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Traders Point Christian only posted an OBP of .263.

Clinton Prairie is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. As for Traders Point Christian, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Coming up, Clinton Prairie will challenge Frontier at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.06 runs per game on average), something the Gophers will no doubt try to take advantage of. Traders Point Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
