The Loretto Mustangs put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They managed a 56-52 win over Mt. Pleasant. Yes, you read that score correctly, and yes, they were playing football.
Loretto's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mason Tidwell led the charge by throwing for 271 yards and four touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes. Corben Reynolds also helped out with an impressive 142 receiving yards.
Mt. Pleasant's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jakyri Mcclure, who rushed for 169 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.4 yards per carry, and also picked up 53 receiving yards. Mcclure's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Brown, who threw for 420 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 15.6 yards per attempt.
Loretto's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 10-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.8 points per game. As for Mt. Pleasant, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-2.
Loretto will take on Peabody at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Peabody will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings (they are ranked 205th, while Loretto is ranked 80th). As for Mt. Pleasant, they will head out on the road to face off against Riverside at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Riverside's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last three contests.
