The Toppenish Wildcats will head out to square off against the Grandview Greyhounds at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Toppenish will be strutting in after a victory while Grandview will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Thursday, Toppenish got the win against Quincy by a conclusive 14-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.
Frances Tilley made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Tilley was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Leticia De La Cruz was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Laylah Fitzpatrick also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Grandview was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They came up short against Ellensburg, falling 20-9.
Aileen Ledesma made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. Brenna Snyder was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple.
Toppenish's record now sits at 4-12. As for Grandview, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10-2.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Toppenish hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .381. However, it's not like Grandview struggles in that department as they've averaged .352. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Toppenish suffered a grim 16-10 defeat to Grandview when the teams last played back in April of 2016. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
