East Haven is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will venture away from home to square off against the Cheshire Rams at 4:45 p.m. East Haven's hitters haven't had much luck over their past five matchups, but Friday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.
East Haven came into their game on Wednesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Fairfield Prep, falling 16-2.
Meanwhile, Cheshire had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Gaels. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rams have posted since May 1, 2024.
Joshua Bonomo looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single walk any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Cheshire let Luke Mann and Joseph Amodei run wild. Mann got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Amodei went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Mann has hit this season. Jackson Enders was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Cheshire hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.
Cheshire now has a winning record of 4-3. As for East Haven, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
East Haven beat Cheshire 7-3 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Yellowjackets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
