The Stoughton Vikings will head out to square off against the Reedsburg Beavers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Having struggled with six losses in a row, Stoughton turned things around against Sauk Prairie on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Eagles. The matchup marked the Vikings' most dominant victory of the season.
Madelyn Barsness made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Stoughton got a massive performance out of Emily Matheny, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Matheny a new career-high. Savannah Fosdal also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Stoughton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Reedsburg came out on top against Sauk Prairie on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Beavers' pitchers stepped up to hand the Eagles a 7-0 shutout. The Beavers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.
Cheyenne Raupp and Gretchen Rockweiler were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Raupp didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Rockweiler pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. At the plate, Raupp went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run, while Rockweiler went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kylee Molitor, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Elizabeth Haag was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
The win was the third in a row for Reedsburg, bringing their record up to 12-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Stoughton, their record is now 6-15.
Reedsburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Stoughton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Reedsburg, though, as they've been averaging only 2.8 strikeouts. Will Stoughton keep running through batters, or will the Beavers buck the trend?
Stoughton might still be hurting after the 13-1 defeat they got from Reedsburg in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
