It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Battlefield Bobcats can now relate to. They took a serious blow against the Cardinals on Wednesday, falling 57-29. Battlefield's defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
It was another big night for Madison McKenzie, who almost dropped a double-double on 33 points and nine rebounds for Gainesville. It was the first time this season that McKenzie pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Leylani Abraham, who scored six points along with six rebounds and five blocks.
Battlefield's defeat dropped their record down to 16-7. As for Gainesville, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season.
Battlefield will be playing in front of their home fans against Freedom at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Virginia (Freedom is ranked 116th, while Battlefield is ranked 92nd). As for Gainesville, they will head out on the road to take on Osbourn Park at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Gainesville is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
