Baseball Recap: Cerritos Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Cerritos had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Downey Vikings on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Dons: when they faced off against the Vikings last Monday, they had to take a 6-3 loss.

Frank Melendrez looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Dalton Chi was incredible, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Adrian Regis, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Cerritos' win bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Downey, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-4.

Looking ahead, Cerritos will take on Woodrow Wilson at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Woodrow Wilson's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Cerritos' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Downey, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Bellflower at 3:15 p.m. Downey is facing Bellflower at the right time seeing as Bellflower is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
