The Sparta Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 76-62 to Tomah. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the loss, Sparta still got an impressive performance from Gavin Rhead, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds. John Rice was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Sparta's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-11. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.2 points per game. As for Tomah, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sparta won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Holmen at 7:15 p.m. on January 23rd. As for Tomah, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Baraboo at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday. Baraboo presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Tomah in Wisconsin (Baraboo is ranked 118th, while Tomah is ranked 388th).
