The Berkeley Stags won the last time they faced the Stratford Knights, and things went their way on Friday too. Berkeley claimed a resounding 55-27 win over Stratford at home. Given Berkeley's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Stratford is ranked 196th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Berkeley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amani Mccray, who scored 13 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mccray has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Caldwell, who scored ten points along with three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Stratford lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sydnie Stepney. Despite the final result, she scored five points along with 14 rebounds and four blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of DaNya Crawford, who scored four points along with two blocks.
Berkeley has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Stratford, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-21.
Berkeley will head out on the road to face off against Cane Bay at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Cane Bay focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 last Tuesday. As for Stratford, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Goose Creek at 6:00 p.m. Stratford is coming into the matchup with six straight defeats at home, meaning Goose Creek will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
