The Forreston Cardinals will be taking part in a tournament against the Braddock Bulldogs at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Forreston has given up an average of 8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Forreston is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Fort Smith P on Tuesday. They came up short against the Patriots, falling 14-2. The game marked the Cardinals' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Carson Akins put in work no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Akins was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Braddock waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Bears. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Miguel Diaz tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, Braddock got a massive performance out of Marcelo Torres, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Manny Sanchez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Braddock was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .583. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .500 or higher in three consecutive games.
Forreston's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Braddock, their victory bumped their record up to 14-3-1.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Forreston hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .347. However, it's not like Braddock struggles in that department as they've averaged .388. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
