Wheeling Central Catholic is 8-2 against Charleston Catholic since February of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Wheeling Central Catholic Maroon Knights will head out on the road to take on the Charleston Catholic Irish at 7:30 p.m. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.
Last Monday, Wheeling Central Catholic came up short against Cameron and fell 65-53. While losing is never fun, Wheeling Central Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while Cameron is ranked 18th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Haley Severns, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Blake, who scored 22 points.
Meanwhile, Charleston Catholic also suffered a loss in their last game, but this one to Poca by a score of 49-36.
Wheeling Central Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Charleston Catholic, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season.
Wheeling Central Catholic couldn't quite finish off Charleston Catholic in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 and fell 47-45. Can Wheeling Central Catholic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
