The North Rangers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of John Hay by a score of 44-41. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat North has suffered yet this season.
Several Rangers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Samantha Cantrell, who scored 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cantrell has scored all season. Cami Welty was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Tylia Parker was her usual excellent self, scoring 16 points along with six steals for John Hay. Parker is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Carr, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
North's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for John Hay, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North will take on Streetsboro at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. The timing is sure in Streetsboro's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while North has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. John Hay won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Bard Early College at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. Bard Early College will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 745th, while John Hay is ranked 362nd).
