Eastside hasn't had much luck against Highland recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Eastside Lions will head out to take on the Highland Bulldogs at 3:15 p.m. Eastside's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Highland's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Things were looking good for Eastside after they put the first points on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of San Luis Obispo by a score of 6-5. While the Lions didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Tigers 4-0 in the first period.
Hermoine Jimenez was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That run marked the first that she scored this season. Bethanie Jimenez was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
Even though they lost, Eastside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Highland). They put the hurt on Littlerock with a sharp 12-2 win on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Evalina Chavez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Arianna Young, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Highland pushed their record up to 6-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Eastside, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1-1.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Eastside hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .468. However, it's not like Highland struggles in that department as they've averaged .370. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Eastside suffered a grim 21-5 defeat to Highland in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Eastside avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
