The Mariner Tritons had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They took down Sebring 87-73. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Marcus Kelley Jr was his usual excellent self, scoring 26 points along with eight rebounds. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Corey Hunter, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Sebring still got an impressive performance from KJ Turner, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and eight assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Gregory, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Sebring were working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mariner only racked up ten assists.
Mariner has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for Sebring, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.
Mariner won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Discovery at 10:40 a.m. on January 20th. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Darius Livingston and Kelley Jr. As for Sebring, they will head out on the road to take on Kathleen at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Kathleen will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 582nd, while Sebring is ranked 218th).
