Freedom is a perfect 10-0 against Waupaca since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Irish will head out on the road to square off against the Comets at 4:30 p.m. Freedom's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Waupaca's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Freedom will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Saturday, then bounced right back against Clintonville on Tuesday. The Irish were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Truckers. Considering the Irish have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kailey Stordeur made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Stordeur was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Carrington Klug and Jovie Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Klug went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Smith went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Klug has posted since back in April. Marlee Smith was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Freedom kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Waupaca came up short against Oconto Falls on Tuesday and fell 7-3. The loss continues a trend for the Comets in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost six in a row.
Waupaca saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was H Bechard, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Bechard is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. A Koran also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Freedom pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Waupaca, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.
Waupaca's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Freedom has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .458. It's a different story for Waupaca, though, as they've only averaged .337. Will they be able to contain Freedom's hitters?
Everything went Freedom's way against Waupaca when the teams last played back in April, as Freedom made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Irish since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
