The Belen Eagles scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They strolled past Sandia Prep with points to spare, taking the game 69-51. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Belen as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Belen got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Gabriel Valerio out in front who scored 16 points. Valerio set a new season high mark in points with 16. Daniel Aguilar was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
Belen's win ended a eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-3. As for Sandia Prep, their defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 0-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Belen and Academy for Technology and The Classics will face off at 7:15 p.m. on December 14th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Academy for Technology and The Classics presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Belen in New Mexico (Academy for Technology and The Classics is ranked 16th, while Belen is ranked 84th). As for Sandia Prep, they will be playing at home against St. Pius X at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
