The Jackson Jaguars entered their tilt with the Creekside Seminoles with 12 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 13. Jackson walked away with a 66-58 victory over the Seminoles on Saturday. Given Jackson's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while the Seminoles are ranked 73rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jackson's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taliah Cornish, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points and 3 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cornish has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Shakira Gresham, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Creekside lost, one person who can't be blamed is C?india Dennis. Despite the final result, she scored 25 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. That was a full 43.1% of Creekside's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Skye Cleveland, who scored 16 points along with three steals.
Jackson pushed their record up to 20-1 with that win, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.4 points per game. As for Creekside, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jackson will take on the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Tri-Cities focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Saturday. As for Creekside, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. Banneker has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 9.
