The Rolling Meadows Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Highland Park Giants at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Rolling Meadows has given up an average of 7.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Rolling Meadows couldn't beat Maine South on Tuesday even though they stacked eight runs on them in the third inning. The Mustangs lost 18-8 to the Hawks. The Mustangs' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Caylee Del Boccio and Vanessa Cobos did some serious damage despite the final result: Del Boccio went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Cobos went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Cobos has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Taya Rozanski, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Highland Park, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against New Trier on Monday, sneaking past 4-3. The victory was some much needed relief for the Giants as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.
Lily Freedman made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Freedman was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Arden Bubser, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Sofia Cisternino was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Highland Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Highland Park's record is now 4-14. As for Rolling Meadows, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-18.
Rolling Meadows came up short against Highland Park when the teams last played back in May of 2022, falling 6-2. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
