The Montrose Red Hawks will venture away from home to challenge the Durango Demons at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Montrose is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
On Tuesday, Montrose got the win against Gunnison by a conclusive 3-0.
Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Montrose took every set by at least 11 points. The final score came out to 25-13, 25-14, 25-14.
Among those leading the charge was Player #28, who had 26 assists. Brooke Walters also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
Montrose was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in nine consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Durango earned a 3-1 win over Fruita Monument on Friday.
The victory didn't come easy: Fruita Monument scored at least 20 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 27-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20.
Montrose's record now sits at 14-0. As for Durango, their record is now 6-12.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's matchup: Montrose has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.9 aces per game. However, it's not like Durango struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Montrose beat Durango 3-1 in their previous meeting back in September. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Hawks since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
