The Valley Lutheran Chargers will face off against the New Lothrop Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Valley Lutheran is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Valley Lutheran gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over Nouvel Catholic Central. The win continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won four in a row.
Trey Flood-Captain spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Valley Lutheran's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Axel Schuette, who went 2-for-4 with one run. Jacob Grimpo also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
New Lothrop let Byron stack five runs on them in the second inning on Monday but luckily New Lothrop prevailed anyway. The Hornets came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 9-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hornets.
Logan Judd made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Judd was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of New Lothrop's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-8 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Michael Schlachter and Jameson Kopschitz did most of the damage at the plate: Schlachter went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run, while Kopschitz got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most stolen bases Schlachter has posted since back in May of 2024.
New Lothrop always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Valley Lutheran pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for New Lothrop, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Valley Lutheran came up short against New Lothrop in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 19-16. Will the Chargers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
