Canyon Springs has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Sunrise Mountain Miners at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
With a playoff game on the line, Canyon Springs rose to the challenge on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 40-14 margin over Chaparral. The result was nothing new for Canyon Springs, who have now won six matchups by 26 points or more so far this season.
Canyon Springs relied on the efforts of Tysean Mccraney, who threw for 129 yards and two touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes, and Eric Mosley- wedermyer, who gained 109 total yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Sunrise Mountain entered their tilt with Eldorado with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Sunrise Mountain pulled ahead with a 36-35 photo finish over Eldorado.
Auhsoj Cunningham had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 269 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 15.8 yards per carry. Cunningham was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 62 yards.
Their wins bumped Canyon Springs to 9-1 and Sunrise Mountain to 8-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Canyon Springs has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 151.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sunrise Mountain struggles in that department as they've been even better at 251.2 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
