The Madison Warhawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 87-59 loss at the hands of Cathedral Catholic. While losing is never fun, Madison can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 564th, while Cathedral Catholic is ranked 114th).
Despite the defeat, Madison saw an underclassman step up: Caleb Gleason scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Gleason posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Jorge Luque, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Cathedral Catholic was led to victory by Pj Jourdain and Patrick O'brien. Jourdain scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and five assists, while O'brien scored 30 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Another player making a difference was Ryan Enos, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Madison has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season. As for Cathedral Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.
Madison will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against University City at 6:15 p.m. One thing working in University City's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five contests. As for Cathedral Catholic, they will head out on the road to square off against Mission Bay at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mission Bay has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 301 points over their last five matchups.
