The Crystal City Javelinas had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 95-87 victory over Lytle. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Abran Palomo was a one-man wrecking crew for Crystal City as he went 7 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points and 4 assists. Christopher Mena was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 assists.
Lytle lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Chase Guevara, who almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Perez, who scored 31 points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Lytle were working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Crystal City pushed their record up to 20-12 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 92.5 points per game. As for Lytle, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 23-7.
Crystal City will head out on the road to square off against Dilley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Crystal City's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine contests. As for Lytle, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Natalia at 6:15 p.m. Hopefully Lytle focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday.
