Elmwood-Murdock had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 62-point drubbing they dealt Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer on Friday. The Knights took their match with ease, bagging a 68-6 win over the Titans. The victory continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won six in a row.
Dashiell Coleman was his usual excellent self, rushing for 128 yards and three scores on only six carries, while also throwing for 66 yards and one TD on only five passes. He got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 67 yards. Another player making a difference was Brody Marsh, who rushed for 101 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries.
Elmwood-Murdock didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer to a completion percentage of just 15.8%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from five players: Coleman, Marsh, Dustin Gordon, Clayton Wagner, and Leo Rikli, who each logged one passes deflected. Elmwood-Murdock hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.29 or higher in seven consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Elmwood-Murdock's defense didn't let Bradyn Bowen., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Marsh, Ryerson Kastens, and Jonah Rikli, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Despite the defeat, Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jack Hilgenfeld picked up 91 receiving yards and one score.
Elmwood-Murdock's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elmwood-Murdock will challenge Johnson-Brock at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least 31 points in their last three games. As for Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer, they will face off against Sacred Heart at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Titans will be up against the Irish's rather soft defense (which has allowed 51.5 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
