The Prout Crusaders will square off against the Moses Brown Quakers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Prout is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Chariho, who was ranked third at the time (Prout was ranked eighth). The Crusaders lost 12-0 to the Chargers last Friday. The Crusaders' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Moses Brown). Everything went their way against St. Mary Academy-Bay View on Thursday as they made off with a 25-11 win. With that victory, the Quakers brought their scoring average up to 7.2 runs per game.
Coco Medeiros was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in five of her seven plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Abby DeWolf was a standout: she went 3-for-6 with four runs, four RBI, and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Abby Sepe was another key player, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Moses Brown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. They are 4-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Prout's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Moses Brown, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-7 record.
Prout's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's match. The Crusaders have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Moses Brown, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Prout continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Prout's way against Moses Brown when the teams last played back in April, as Prout made off with a 14-2 victory. Do the Crusaders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Quakers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
