The Woods Cross Wildcats will face off against the Olympus Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Woods Cross sitting on six straight wins and Olympus on nine.
Woods Cross gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Box Elder by a score of 5-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Heston White tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kason Lythgoe, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Alex Razee, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Olympus won against East last Monday with five runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Titans' pitchers stepped up to hand the Leopards a 5-0 shutout.
Olympus also got a great performance from Cougar Vance as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched.
At the plate, ANDREW MORGAN was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Olympus pushed their record up to 18-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Woods Cross, their record is now 18-9.
Both Woods Cross and Olympus just can't seem to miss. The Wildcats have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Olympus struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Woods Cross was able to grind out a solid victory over Olympus in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, winning 11-7. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Titans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
