Andover Central hasn't had much luck against Maize recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Jaguars will host the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Saturday, Andover Central sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over Pittsburg.
Meanwhile, Maize waltzed into their matchup on Monday with 18 straight wins... but they left with 19. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Crusaders an 11-0 shutout. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.
Gavin Short was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brodie Jarvis, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Parker Meirowsky, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Maize was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .393 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Maize's victory bumped their record up to 22-2. As for Andover Central, the win got them back to even at 12-12.
Andover Central suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Maize in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
