The Conard Red Wolves came tearing into Monday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Middletown, posting a 70-34 victory on the road. The result was nothing new for Conard, who have now won five games by 22 points or more so far this season.
Middletown's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shalyn Smith, who scored 11 points. The contest was Smith's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tessa Porch, who scored nine points.
Conard's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for Middletown, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Conard is on the road again on Thursday and play against Farmington at 6:45 p.m. on January 11th. Farmington and Conard are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Middletown, they will head out on the road to face off against Plainville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
