Dexter hasn't had much luck against Poplar Bluff recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Bearcats are taking a road trip to take on the Mules at 4:30 p.m. Dexter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Dexter was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Kelly on Wednesday. The Bearcats put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 9-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bearcats, who have now won six contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Beau Carrier spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Nolan Alford was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Howard, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI and one triple.
Meanwhile, Poplar Bluff came up short against Jackson on Thursday and fell 9-6. That's two games in a row now that the Mules have lost by exactly three runs.
Bryce Dobbs was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That stolen base was his first of the season. Marcus Tabanera was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Poplar Bluff has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season. As for Dexter, their win bumped their record up to 13-5.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dexter has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465. However, it's not like Poplar Bluff struggles in that department as they've averaged .435. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dexter came out on top in a nail-biter against Poplar Bluff when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Do the Bearcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mules turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
