Rockhurst is 1-7 against Creighton Prep since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Rockhurst Hawklets will square off against the Creighton Prep Junior Jays at 7:00 p.m. Rockhurst knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Creighton Prep likes a good challenge.
Rockhurst was handed a heart-breaking two-point defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Pembroke Hill on Tuesday. Rockhurst was the clear victor by a 67-44 margin over Pembroke Hill. Given the Hawklets' advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth, while the Raiders are ranked 75th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Rockhurst's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kevin Sullivan, who posted 15 points and six rebounds. Callen Eskew was another key player, putting up 12 points.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Creighton Prep, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They had just enough and edged Lincoln Southeast out 50-48.
Creighton Prep's win came from a few key players Rockhurst will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Torran Carter-Brown, who scored 13 points. He is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Trinell Parker, who went 6 for 7 on his way to 14 points.
Rockhurst's record is now 17-4. As for Creighton Prep, their record is now 13-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Rockhurst has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 21.6 boards per game. However, it's not like Creighton Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.2 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Rockhurst came up short against Creighton Prep in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 61-49. Thankfully for Rockhurst, Akol Arop (who shot 4-for-5 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double with 23 points and 11 boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
