The Morro Bay Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Santa Ynez Pirates at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Morro Bay will be strutting in after a victory while Santa Ynez will be coming in after a defeat.
Even though Paso Robles scored an imposing 55 points on Tuesday, Morro Bay still came out on top. Morro Bay came out on top in a nail-biter against Paso Robles and snuck past 58-55. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Morro Bay has posted since December 18, 2023.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Morro Bay to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jake Falat, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Sergio Mendoza, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Santa Ynez pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to San Luis Obispo 61-57. Santa Ynez has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Morro Bay now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Santa Ynez, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season.
Morro Bay couldn't quite finish off Santa Ynez in their previous meeting back in November of 2023 and fell 57-55. Can Morro Bay avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
