The Northwest Knights are taking a road trip to challenge the Batavia Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Northwest turned things around against Mt. Healthy on Monday. They put the hurt on the Fighting Owls with a sharp 12-1 win. The Knights not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 20th (when they won 14-2).
Zach Havrilla was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Havrilla was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. That run was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Braden Wisecarver was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Ryan Frey was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Batavia came out on top against New Richmond on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Bulldogs took their matchup against the Lions 8-3. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Like Northwest, Batavia also got a great game from a two-way player: Brayden Schmittou. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off 11 hits. Schmittou has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Patrick, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Bryce Eads, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Northwest's record is now 5-8. As for Batavia, their record now sits at 13-3.
