The North Salinas Vikings will take on the Leigh Longhorns at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. North Salinas is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
Two weeks ago, things could have been worse for North Salinas, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 28-14 loss to Alisal. North Salinas has not had much luck with Alisal recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Justin Pascone, who rushed for 130 yards on only 12 carries. Pascone is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kai Ceralde, who threw for 156 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, after only six points in their last match, Leigh made sure to put some points up on the board against Westmont on Friday. Leigh came out on top against Westmont by a score of 34-27. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but Leigh was the better team in the second half.
Zach Pistor was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns. Michael J. Valenti did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 99 receiving yards and a touchdown.
North Salinas' loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Leigh, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. North Salinas has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 236 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Leigh struggles in that department as they've been averaging 150.2 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
