Demetrius Davis was his usual excellent self, rushing for 150 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 13 carries. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in September of 2024.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Marcos de Niza was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 261 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Independence only rushed for 85.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Marcos de Niza's defense and their four sacks. In that department, Nikolasi Tongauiha was the leader with two. He has been hot recently, having also posted seven or more total tackles the last four times he's played.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 13-13 at halftime, Glendale was not quite Greenway's equal in the second half on Friday. They took a 27-23 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Demons. While the Cardinals had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Demons 10-0.
Marcos de Niza will have to keep a close watch on Santiago Navarrette and Bryce Jones, a pair of players who had a big impact on Glendale's prior game. Navarrette picked up 152 receiving yards and one TD, while Jones picked up 43 receiving yards and one score. Navarrette didn't just play on offense: he also made seven total tackles and defended one pass.
The victory made it two in a row for Marcos de Niza and bumps their season record up to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.5 points over those games. As for Glendale, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.
Friday's contest might be decided in the trenches. Marcos de Niza has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 218.4 rushing yards per game.
