Softball Recap: Richfield Has No Trouble Against North Summit

Richfield won the last time they faced North Summit and things went their way on Saturday too. Richfield put the hurt on North Summit with a sharp 18-1 victory. The contest marked the Wildcats' most dominant win of the season.

Mataiya Murray and Sydnei Christensen were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Murray tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Christensen tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Murray has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At the plate, Murray scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Christensen scored two runs while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits Christensen has posted over her last 13 matchups.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaydence Busk, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaycee McKinlay, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.

The victory made it two in a row for Richfield and bumps their season record up to 5-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.5 runs over those games. As for North Summit, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Coming up, Richfield will be playing at home against Juan Diego Catholic at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Richfield's pitcher better be ready for this one: Juan Diego Catholic has averaged an impressive 10.4 runs per game this season. As for North Summit, they will head out on the road to challenge San Juan at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Summit is facing San Juan at the right time seeing as San Juan is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
