Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Martinsville). They ended the year with a bang, routing the Chrisman Cardinals 69-45 on Friday. While the Bluestreaks didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Martinsville had a senior duo take command as Kaiden Simons went 8 of 16 on his way to 23 points in addition to six boards and five steals and Adam Parcel dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards. Those 23 points set a new season-high mark for Simons. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Leloup, who posted seven points and 16 rebounds.
Martinsville was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Gavin McCord and Statler Mitchell certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. McCord almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds, while Mitchell had 11 points along with seven blocks and six boards.
Martinsville's record is now 6-4. As for Chrisman, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-9.
Martinsville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 68-42 loss against Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg on the 28th. As for Chrisman, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 75-37 defeat against Paris on the 28th.
