The Cardinal Hayes Cardinals had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They pulled ahead with a 30-29 photo finish over Iona Prep. The victory was nothing new for Cardinal Hayes as they're now sitting on five straight.
When it comes to explaining why Iona Prep lost on Saturday, one person who can't be blamed is Joey Gaston. Despite the final result, he rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 314 yards on 21 of 30 attempts. Kadin Huling also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Cardinal Hayes' victory bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Iona Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.
Cardinal Hayes will head out on the road to face off against Mt. St. Michael Academy at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. Mt. St. Michael Academy will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. Iona Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
