The Marsing Huskies and the Wendell Trojans will round out the year against one another at at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Marsing's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matchups.
Marsing is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took a 91-81 hit to the loss column at the hands of Weiser on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (62), the Huskies still had to take the loss.
12/20/24 vs Weiser | 32 |
12/19/24 vs Payette | 19 |
12/17/24 vs The Ambrose School | 28 |
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Juan Ponce, who posted 32 points. His evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Teagan Kinney, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 16 points and seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Marsing smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Wendell was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 51-46 to Declo. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Idaho basketball rankings (they are ranked 54th, while the Hornets are ranked eighth).
Like Marsing, Wendell lost despite seeing results from several players. Jarrett Borges led the charge by going 6 of 8 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jett Jasper, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 11 points and five blocks.
Marsing has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-3 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.8 points per game. As for Wendell, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-3.
Marsing didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Wendell in their previous matchup on December 6th, but they still walked away with a 67-61 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Marsing since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
