The Farmington Farmers will square off against the Sherrard Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Farmington is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.
Farmington barely beat Mercer County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Farmers beat the Golden Eagles on Wednesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 11-1. Considering the Farmers have won five games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Ben Marvel was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jacob Evans, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run.
Marvel wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Farmington lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Sherrard made easy work of Bushnell-Prairie City on Monday and carried off a 10-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
Zach Knox made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.
In other batting news, Garrett Woodward and Harrison Curry did most of the damage at the plate: Woodward scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Curry scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Curry is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Carter Brown was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Farmington's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Sherrard, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Farmington has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Sherrard struggles in that department as they've averaged .464. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
