Eastern will challenge Bethlehem at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Eastern 3.5, Bethlehem 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Eastern is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Ballard just ended the team's 13-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 6-2 to the Bruins. The Eagles were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the four matchups prior), but the Bruins' pitcher proved too tough.
Ava Newell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Eastern saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gracie Jeffcoat, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Bethlehem suffered their closest loss since April 26, 2025 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Nelson County by a score of 4-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Cardinals: they've now lost four in a row.
Eastern's loss dropped their record down to 20-6. As for Bethlehem, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 14-8.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Eastern has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .471. However, it's not like Bethlehem struggles in that department as they've averaged .464. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Eastern suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Bethlehem in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. Will Eastern have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
