Summit Academy's three-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They really took it to Granger for the full four quarters, racking up a 62-26 win on the road. With Summit Academy ahead 36-16 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Summit Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Avery Backus led the charge by scoring 15 points along with 9 steals and 7 rebounds. The match was Backus' fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Destinee Flores, who scored 11 points along with 8 rebounds and 5 assists.
Meanwhile, Kearns didn't have too much trouble with Tooele on the road on Tuesday as they won 66-49. With that win, Kearns brought their scoring average up to 51.2 points per game.
Kylee Glade and Iman Finau were among the main playmakers for Kearns as the former scored 16 points along with 7 steals and the latter scored 17 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Glade is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Crystal Afemata - marasco, who scored 6 points along with 5 rebounds.
Summit Academy's win bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Kearns, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's game: Summit Academy have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5.5 threes per game. It's a different story for Kearns, though, as they've been averaging only 3.2 per game. Given Summit Academy's sizeable advantage in that area, Kearns will need to find a way to close that gap.
