The Bishop Kelley Comets had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.4 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They won a match that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Claremore 42-41. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Despite the loss, Claremore still got an impressive performance from Braxton Etheridge, who threw for 177 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Gage Deckard was another key contributor, picking up 106 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Bishop Kelley's win was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 6-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.0 points per game. As for Claremore, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-1-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bishop Kelley will square off against Nathan Hale at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Nathan Hale comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Claremore, they will head out on the road to face off against Will Rogers College at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Will Rogers College will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Oklahoma Rankings (they are ranked 141st, while Claremore is ranked 39th).
