Even though the Kickapoo Chiefs scored an imposing 61 points on Saturday, the Battle Spartans still came out on top. It was close, but Battle ultimately received the gift of a 63-61 victory from a begrudging Spartanssquad. The win was all the more spectacular given their disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Kickapoo is ranked 21st).
Leading Battle to victory were Tayla Robinson and Jaelynn Green. Robinson scored 18 points along with three steals, while Green scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Green scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaleah Brookins, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Battle now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Kickapoo, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-1.
Battle will be home for the holidays to greet Benton at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Benton will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. Kickapoo will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Carthage at 11:00 a.m. on December 27th.
