Basketball Recap: Zanesville Drops Highest Score of Season Against Lakewood

Zanesville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 57-45 to the Lakewood Lancers. One positive for the Blue Devils, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Zanesville's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Achaia Walker, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 14 points, and Ayawna Gladden, who posted ten points in addition to five boards and three steals. That's the most steals Gladden has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lakeyah Butcher, who put up four points.

Even though they lost, Zanesville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Zanesville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Lakewood, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 2-9.

Zanesville will host Licking Valley at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lakewood, they will venture away from home to square off against Utica at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. Utica knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Lakewood likes a good challenge.
