The McDowell Trojans will head out to challenge the Meadville Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. McDowell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
McDowell proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 11) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Harbor Creek 2-0. The victory was familiar territory for the Trojans, who have now won three matches in a row.
McDowell got a great performance from Justice Laird as he didn't allow a single earned run over 6.2 innings pitched. Laird has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Evan Stranko was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Meadville). Everything went their way against Warren on Tuesday as they made off with a 15-5 win. The Bulldogs not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 25, 2024 (when they won 12-2).
Bradyn Miller and Colin ReiChel did most of the damage at the plate: Miller got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two RBI, while Reichel went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Reichel a new career-high. Aiden Kliest was another key player, earning one RBI and three runs.
Meadville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
McDowell's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Meadville, their record is now 6-8.
McDowell came out on top in a nail-biter against Meadville in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
