Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Red Bud

Red Bud put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Breese Central Cougars. The Musketeers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cougars, too.

The team relied heavily on Alicia Burmester, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Julia Whelan, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Red Bud pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.3 runs this season. As for Breese Central, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Red Bud will take on Granite City at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Breese Central, they will square off against Triad at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Breese Central's pitchers better be ready for this one: Triad has averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season.
