Germantown (Madison, Miss.) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 24-6 win over
Raymond (Miss.).
The Mavericks put up 10 points in the opening frame. Germantown scored on a touchdown run by
Dalton Bradfield and a field goal.
GHS was up 10-0 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by Bradfield in the first quarter.
The Madison school expanded its lead to 24 points entering the fourth quarter. The Mavericks scored two times in the third, including once on a
Tyler Shell touchdown pass to
Jaylen Smith.
Shell played well for Germantown in the victory. The junior quarterback threw one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
The Rangers' lone touchdown came on a run in the fourth quarter.
GHS entered the contest giving up 30.0 points per game this year. The Mavericks held firm on the defensive front, and kept Raymond well below the 15.0 points it had been averaging per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, Germantown came away with a 31-20 victory.
With the win GHS extended its winning streak to four games.
In a 4A Region 6 game next week Raymond (2-6) takes on Mendenhall, and Germantown (4-3) will go up against Florence also in a 4A Region 6 game.
