Walnut Hills hasn't had much luck against Anderson recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Raptors at 5:00 p.m. Walnut Hills has given up an average of 8.7 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Walnut Hills is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Thursday. They lost 11-1 to St. Xavier.
Walnut Hills saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shea Dillon, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.
Meanwhile, Anderson had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They walked away with a 7-3 win over the Eagles. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Mason Glen tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Anderson is undefeated when Glen allows two or fewer earned runs, but 5-7 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Anderson let Eric Fleetwood and Hudson Best run wild. Fleetwood went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, while Best went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Best is becoming a predictor of Anderson's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Trout, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Anderson now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Walnut Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Walnut Hills has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Anderson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Walnut Hills might still be hurting after the 19-2 defeat they got from Anderson when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
