Having just played yesterday, the Moapa Valley Pirates will get right back to it and host the Basic Wolves at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Moapa Valley is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
On Wednesday, Moapa Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over Pinecrest Academy Cadence, taking the game 39-27.
Claire Cox continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 19 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Moapa Valley's points. Another player making a difference was Sienna Neilson, who posted six points in addition to 14 rebounds and four steals.
Moapa Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in seven consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Basic). They snuck past Del Sol with a 56-52 win on Tuesday.
Basic's win came from a few key players Moapa Valley will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kamilyah (Star) Williams, who had 17 points and seven rebounds. She is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Frias, who put up 16 points.
Moapa Valley pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.1 points per game. As for Basic, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.
Everything came up roses for Moapa Valley against Basic in their previous matchup back in December of 2021, as the squad secured a 50-14 victory. Will Moapa Valley repeat their success, or does Basic have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
